Arte Sella is a cultural association and social enterprise, supported by a qualified staff and a significant network of partners. Over the years, more than 300 artists have collaborated on Arte Sella’s growth, creating three exhibitions featuring works of art.
Arte Sella was born experimentally in 1986, when a group of friends living in Borgo Valsugana gathered in the garden of Villa Strobele in Val di Sella to imagine combining contemporary art and nature. This began a period of contact with local cultural institutions, the local population, and artists, primarily foreigners. Strong partnerships were formed, such as the collaboration with the Amici di Borgo Association, led by Livio Rossi. It was during this early stage of Arte Sella’s existence that several key principles were established, which still inspire its work today:
– The artist is not the sole protagonist of the artwork but accepts that nature completes their work;
– Nature must be protected as a treasure trove of memory;
– Nature is no longer simply protected, but interpreted even in its absence: thus, the relationship with ecology changes;
– The works are placed here and now and are constructed using natural materials. They emerge from the landscape, only to then return to nature.
Although the Arte Sella project has existed since 1986, with the first installations and exhibitions held in the garden of Villa Strobele in Val di Sella, the Arte Sella Association was formally founded in October 1989, under the aegis of its three founders, Enrico Ferrari, Emanuele Montibeller, and Charlotte Strobele.
